Bilateral relations: Algeria - Zambia

Algeria and Zambia enjoy excellent bilateral relations based on solidarity, friendship and mutual interest dating back to their mutual struggle against colonialism in Africa and apartheid in the southern Africa region.

The two countries share same positions on regional and international issues of common interest. The two countries support the right of self-determination of the Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa.

The two countries have signed an agreement on joint bilateral commission (1986) and a trade agreement (1981).

Algeria has resumed from 2005 scholarships to Zambian students under the Algerian Government Annual African scholarship Program which has seen 56 students currently studying in Algeria.

An Algerian trade delegation visited Lusaka in June 2006 and found a lot of opportunities for business and investment in areas such as agriculture, mining, health and education. A memorandum of understanding was signed during that visit.
